O Templo de Salomão, construção histórica simbolicamente importante para o esoterismo europeu, formava-se por três estruturas principais:

• um pátio ou átrio exterior, de livre acesso a todas as pessoas;
• um pátio ou átrio interior, de acesso exclusivo aos sacerdotes, com o altar dos sacrifícios e o mar de bronze;
• o edifício ou templo propriamente dito.

O templo formava-se por três elementos principais:

• o pórtico, com as duas colunas ou pilares Jaquim e Boaz;
• a câmara principal, ou Lugar Santo, com o altar do incenso;
• a câmara interna, ou Lugar Santíssimo ou Santo dos Santos, onde residia a Arca da Aliança.
